It's Time for Legislators to Follow the Rules
The Libertarian Party is the "Party of Principle". One of our principles is to respect our constitutions, which outline the structure of government and set limits on governmental power. Wisconsin suffers when legislators forget to follow the rules.
The relationship between Madison and Washington is out of whack and must be brought back to the Constitutional standards our representatives periodically pledge to "preserve and protect." Washington has usurped Wisconsin's powers and privileges to the point where the Founders would not recognize the relationship. This must be corrected and brought back to a legal, constitutional relationship.

Budget Problem
Questionable budget practices have allowed Wisconsin to continually spend more than it takes in. Wisconsin state government does not have a record of truly balanced budgets, despite the fact that the Wisconsin Constitution requires that the state budget be balanced. The state's project general fund budget deficit at the end of the current biennium is a staggering $5.4 billion, far higher than any projected budget deficit in the past. This is a bi-partisan problem that must be corrected by replacing incumbents.
The Right to Keep and Bear Arms
Wisconsin citizens can be proud and grateful that we have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms for any lawful purpose, written in language which any 6th grader can understand. The Wisconsin Assembly should be ashamed that it hasn't removed or amended any of the gun control laws on the books from before the passage of that amendment (Article I, Section 25) in 1998. Our laws must be reformed, modernized and comply with our constitution.
State Laws and Regulations
When the US Constitution was approved, the central government had limited, enumerated powers and the states had power over things that happened within their borders. Washington was further limited by the Bill of Rights, Articles 10, which said, "The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." Today, however, we can hardly make a move without running into some sort of Federal law or regulation, at our expense. The Wisconsin Legislature and our Congressional delegation must defend our sovereignty or be held accountable.
The Wisconsin Guard
Our Constitutional State Guard has been withdrawn from Wisconsin and sent abroad to provide foreign aid, build hospitals and schools in foreign lands, and to occupy countries rather than provide a last line of defense to protect the state and the national borders from foreign invaders. Wisconsin must reassert control over the Wisconsin Guard, according to our constitution and laws. Our state must protect and preserve our Guard and not let Washington suck it dry.
